How to Clean and Maintain a Gaming Chair?

A gaming chair is an investment in your health, comfort, and gaming enjoyment. If you don't want to replace it prematurely, a few simple tips can significantly extend its lifespan. In this blog post, we'll use the Boulies Master and Master Rex chairs as examples to explain how to clean and maintain gaming chairs.

Why Do You Need to Clean and Maintain a Chair?

If the chair lacks maintenance, at first glance, your gaming chair may not appear dirty. However, microorganisms and dust, invisible to the naked eye, often cling to it.

And long-term use will also cause wear and tear of the chair components. The weight and movement it bears can also cause the chair's structure to loosen, affecting its adjustability and comfort over time. 

So you need to clean and maintain all parts properly.

Cleaning and Maintenance Tips

For regular cleaning, once a month is recommended. In hot weather when sweating more frequently, clean once a week.

In daily use, keep the office chairs away from direct sunlight to extend their lifespan, as prolonged exposure to sunlight will accelerate the aging of the chairs.

Chair Cleaning Steps

Applicable to Master/Master Rex series

Seat Cleaning

Three types of upholstery materials are used in Master/Master Rex series: Ultraflex PU, Water Repellent Fabric and Nappa Leather.

Ultraflex PU

• Wipe the surface with a clean damp cloth to remove dust and stains.
• Avoid chemical cleaners to prevent damage to the material.
• If necessary, use leather cleaner or leather brightener to make the seat surface more shiny and durable.

Water Repellent Fabric

Due to its waterproof, if a drink or water is accidentally spilled on the chair, you only need to wipe it off with a highly absorbent towel. If snacks are spilled on the chair, you can use a vacuum cleaner to remove them.

• Spray cleaner and wipe gently.
• For stubborn stains, spray cleaner diluted with warm water and wipe clean.
• Do not scrub it harshly with a brush, as this will accelerate the aging of the fabric and reduce its lifespan.

Nappa Leather

• Wipe gently with a clean, soft cloth.
• For stubborn stains existing for a long time, spray neutral cleaner diluted with warm water and wipe repeatedly, then wipe off the cleaning liquid with a clean wrung-out cloth, and finally wipe dry with a dry cloth. After it is completely dry, apply an appropriate amount of leather care agent and wipe it evenly.

2. Cleaning and Maintenance of Metal Parts

The metal parts include: metal wheelbase, connection mechanism between backrest and cushion, metal parts on the armrest.

• Regularly wipe with an oilcloth applying mild cleaner.
• If rust appears, paint it immediately.
• Avoid wiping the surface with a wet cloth.

3. Caster Cleaning

• Clean every two months, as fibers and debris may collect around the caster shaft.
• If you have pets, clean once a month to prevent hair entanglement.
• If your floor is carpet-free, consider using a chair mat to reduce buildup and protect the flooring.

4. Armrest Cleaning

• Wipe the surface with a clean, damp cloth to remove dust and stains.
• Avoid chemical cleaners to prevent damage to the material.

Maintenance of Moving Parts

Despite the excellent quality of our chairs, with long-term use, movement and friction between parts may cause some looseness. We recommend checking and maintaining the moving parts every five months.

1.  Screw Tightness Check

Use a suitable Allen key to tighten the screws in the following areas:

• Tilt mechanism and cushion connection
• Armrest and cushion connection
• Backrest and cushion connection

2.  Lubrication of Moving Mechanisms

Gas Lift

• Check the gas lift for dust, debris, or rust that may affect its normal operation. Clean and apply a suitable amount of lubricant (such as silicone or machine grease) to the moving parts, mainly the piston rod.
• Check the gas lift for any damage, deformation or grease leakage. If damaged, please contact Boulies Support Team to replace the gas lift.
• Ensure the height adjustment handle or button works smoothly.

Tilt Mechanism

• Adjust tilt tension (If it has) to suit your body.
• Regularly spray lubricant on pivots and springs (See the following figures for the specific position).

• Check the tilt adjustment handles for smooth operation and check for cracks or deformation. Contact our support team if any issues arise.

3. Casters

Apply grease at the connection between the casters and the wheelbase every three months to reduce wear and noise, and extend lifespan.

4. Angle Adjuster

Open the plastic cap on the side of the backrest and apply lubricating grease to the mechanism that adjusts the backrest angle to extend the service life of the angle adjuster.
